Understanding how power is delivered to your home dictates the size of the solar system and EV charger you can install.
Single-Phase Power
Most standard residential homes operate on single-phase power. It is perfectly suitable for standard appliances. However, electricity distributors (like Energex) usually limit the size of a solar inverter on a single-phase property to 5kW export. If you want a massive solar system, you are structurally limited.
Three-Phase Power
Larger homes with ducted air conditioning, pool heaters, or large EV chargers often require 3-phase power. Three-phase divides the electrical load across three distinct wires.
The Solar Advantage: If you have 3-phase power, you can install significantly larger solar inverters (e.g., 15kW or more), allowing you to generate and export massive amounts of power. It also allows you to install 22kW fast EV chargers, compared to the 7kW limit on single-phase.
